Job Description:                   Plant Supervisor (Hardy nursery)

Location:                                Norton Garden Centre

Working Pattern:                   Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday (9am – 5.30pm) Alternate Weekends, Saturdays (9am – 5.30pm), Sundays (10am – 4.30pm) times may vary depending on the business.

Extra hours may also be required in our busier times or for opening/closing.

Report to:                               Garden Centre Manager / Duty Manager (Plant Manager)

 

We are currently looking for a friendly, polite and efficient Plant Supervisor (Hardy nursery) Someone with high standards and a level of flexibility that would leave a lasting impression on our customers, so that our customers will want to visit us again..

 

Main area’s of responsibilities:

  • Customer Service – You must have good plant knowledge to assist our customers
  • Place orders for stock in accordance with company requirements
  • Plan and organise the hardy nursery area with the plant manager
  • Plant maintenance and advice

Main Duties/Tasks:

  • Support your line manager in the day to day running of the garden centre plant department,
  • Opening and Closing the site when required. (key Holder position)
  • Maintain the department’s appearance and the benches are stocked.
  • Ensure that the stock is watered and that regular checks are made throughout the day.
  • Place orders for stock in the allocated departments as and when needed according to sales figures using the preferred supplier listings.
  • Develop new merchandising ideas to help increase sales in agreement with your line manager.
  • Advise customers using your plant knowledge
  • Unload deliveries, price up and put out onto the shop floor.
  • Report any shortages and damages to the supplier using the credit claim procedure.
  • Store overstocks in the allocated area(s).
  • Follow up any customer orders.
  • Make sure that the department is ready for the next day’s trading.
  • You will be required to have knowledge on how to operate the tills.
  • Carry out other duties in other areas of the garden centre if your departments are quiet as directed by your line manager.
  • Heavy lifting will be involved (Compost, Gravels)
  • Christmas Tree sales (Heavy lifting involved)
  • Till operation

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Good Communicator
  • Good Team Player, driven by 100% customer satisfaction
  • Flexible with working hours due to the nature of the business.
  • Health and Safety Conscious
  • The position will require a lot of heavy lifting.
  • You must have good plant knowledge to assist our customers.

  • Starting salary £11.95 per hour.
  • 28 days annual leave including paid Bank Holidays, pro-rata basis for part-time employees.
